Conditional Sentences

A.  Pengertian Conditional Sentences

Conditional Sentences atau disebut juga sebagai kalimat pengandaian ialah rangkaian kalimat yang berisikan suatu pengharapan atau gambaran suatu pengkhayalan (lamunan) dalam bentuk kalimat bersyarat.

Pada umumnya, kalimat pengandaian ini juga terdiri dari dua bagian, yaitu :

o   Main Clause, Simple Future Tense

o   If Clause, Simple Present Tense

B.  Jenis – jenis Conditional Sentences

Terdapat tiga tipe dalam Conditional Sentences, yaitu :

i)     Tipe Future Real Conditional

o   Bentuk pertama dari Conditional disebut Probable Conditional atau realcondition yang artinya bahwa sesuatu akan mungkin terjadi pada waktu yangakan datang ataupun sekarang kalau syaratnya terpenuhi.

Rumus : If  + Subject1 + Present + Subject2 + will/can/may/must + Verb1

a.    If I pass the exam I will continue to university.

b.    If i feel bore, i will listening music.

c.    If Rokiy comes, i will give him the books

ii)    Tipe Present Conditional

o   Bentuk kedua dari Conditional disebut Improbable Condition, yang artinyabahwa kejadian tersebut bertentangan dengan yang sebenarnya, karena inimerupakan lamuan/khayalan saja (contrary-fact).

Rumus : Rumus : If + Subject + Simple P

ast….+ Subject + Would + Verb1

a.    If I passed the exam, I would continue to university (I do not pass the exam now.)

b.    If i felt bored, i would listen music (fact : i don’t feel happy)

c.    If Rokiy cames, i would give him the books (fact : Rokiy didn’t comes)

iii)   Past Conditional

o   menggambarkan suatu kejadian yang bertentangan di masalampau dan tidak ada harapan akan terlaksana karena merupakan lamunan masalalu (impossible condition).

Rumus : If + Subject1 + Past Perfect + Subject2 + would/could/might + Verb3/been

a)    If I had passed the exam, I would have continued to university. (fact : I did not pass the exam then.)

b)    If i had felt bored, i would have listened music. (fact : i did not feel bored, and i did not listening music)

c)    If Rokiy had cames, i would have given him the books. (fact : rokiy did not comes, and i can’t give him the books.)
